STORIA - ARTE - CULTURA - DIVERTIMENTO

In the central part of Piazza Erbe, the beautiful Lamberti Tower watches over us.

Rising majestically at 84 meters high, it offers a complete view of the city to anyone who climbs to the top.

You can reach it by climbing 289 steps - sounds like a lot, but don't worry: a convenient elevator is also available.

Its history began in 1172, when it was built by order of the Lamberti family, who were later exiled from the city.

More than a hundred years later, two bells were added: the "Rengo" and the "Marangona".

The former was used to summon the City Council and sound the alarm for a call to arms, while the latter marked the working hours.

In the 1400s, a collapse damaged the top of the tower, but toward the end of the century it was restored and made even taller, adding the characteristic octagonal belfry made of brick and white marble.

Toward the end of the 1700s, by order and at the personal expense of Count Giovanni Sagramoso, the large clock we still see today was added.

Today, the Lamberti Tower is a true masterpiece that lends prestige and splendor to the historic center of Verona.
